Chasing the Dream

What is your dream in life? Do you know? Are you living it? Are you chasing it? How close are you?

In the past I’ve walked away from chasing my dream of being an actor. Big mistake. I regret it. I ended up working in a completely different industry that I wasn’t right for. I worked really hard, but all I have are unpleasant memories and not a dime to show for it.

I just read a tweet that said “pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.” I think tweets like that, the mentality is dangerous. There really are times when quitting is a great call. Sticking around at a job or school program you hate or even being in a bad relationship all sound like things to give up on.

On the other hand, life is too short to not go chase your dream though. I think the tweet means, there will be bumps along the road to achieving your goals, but you can’t let that deter you. That I can get on board with. I honestly believe if you don’t chase your life goals, what are you doing with your life.

Granted, if your goal requires harming others, it’s probably best you don’t chase it. But if not, go for it. I don’t think you should ever quit. You’ll only live to regret it. Weigh the pro and cons. Pain is temporary, but scars can last a long time. What ever it is you are doing, if it’s not worth it, quitting is not that big a deal. I’ve regretted quitting in the past, but I also regret not quitting a whole lot more.
